En 1989, Gueorgui Arbatov, le conseiller diplomatique de Gorbatchev, avait interpellé les américains à la veille de l’effondrement de l’URSS avec cette phrase devenue célèbre : « Nous allons vous rendre le pire des services, nous allons vous priver d’ennemi ! ». Le vide et le sentiment d’humiliation laissés par la dislocation de l’URSS a débouché dix ans plus tard par la prise de pouvoir de Vladimir Poutine. La « Sainte Russie » qui succédait à l’URSS ne pouvait que redevenir l’ennemi principal. Ce jeu du « bon » et du « méchant » issu de la « guerre froide » a duré quasiment 15 ans, jusqu’à l’arrivée de Donald Trump qui a considéré que l’adversaire principal était désormais la Chine. Ce changement inattendu dans les relations Russie-Occident a eu le don d’irriter profondément « l’Etat profond » américain. Le Russiagate en fut une bonne illustration … Dans les faits nos démocraties ne peuvent pas se priver d’ennemi et la Russie constitue un bon adversaire !…
